Dr. Shae Martin
Named "Veterinarian of the Year" in 1999 and 2002 by the Maui Humane Society and Maui's "Small Business Person of the Year" in 2004, Dr. Martin is a general small animal practitioner with professional interests in dermatology and internal medicine. Before opening Central Maui Animal Clinic in February 1999, Dr. Martin practiced as an associate veterinarian at several veterinary hospitals. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Hawaii Veterinary Medical Association and the Maui Humane Society. Originally from New Zealand, Dr. Martin graduated in 1992 with a bachelor of science degree in biology from the University of California at Irvine, then received her doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1996 from the University of California, Davis. Dr. Martin is married to Clayton Matchett, a local equine veterinarian, and the couple have two young children, Aiden and Rylie. Dr. Martin enjoys playing tennis and barreling down Polipoli on her mountain bike.
Dr. Curtis Willauer
As the only board certified veterinary surgeon on Maui, author of numerous published articles, and recent recipient of a master's degree in Chinese medicine, acupuncture and herbology, Dr. Willauer brings a unique skill set and vision to our practice. His work has saved the lives of many pets. His use of herbal remedies, often accompanied by acupuncture treatments, provide astonishing results, while his surgical skills range from routine neutering to orthopedic repairs to pacemaker implantation. Dr. Willauer received his doctorate in veterinary medicine from the University of Pennsylvania, and completed a three-year surgery residency at the University of California, Davis, earning a diploma in small animal surgery. Introduced to acupuncture, he pursued training in this art, first becoming certified by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society and then completing his master of science degree at the Traditional Chinese Medicine College of Hawaii. When not practicing both Eastern and Western veterinary medicine, he enjoys the tropical waters surrounding Maui.
Dr. Mimmi Walther
Dr. Mimmi Walther graduated from University of California - Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. She spent a year in practice at Central Maui Animal Clinic before completing an internship in Emergency and Critical Care Medicine and Surgery at Dove Lewis Emergency Hospital in Portland, OR. Dr. Walther has an interest in Internal Medicine as well as Diagnostic Imaging. In her spare time, she volunteers at a local botanical garden and enjoys traveling, hiking, snorkeling, and other water-sports.
Dr. Michael King
Dr. Michael King is 2004 Graduate of Michigan State University. He spent
his first two years out of school practicing emergency medicine, then
transitioned to general practice. He enjoys soft tissue surgery, dermatology and
emergency medicine. He has extensive experience working with large breed dogs,
working very closely with Rocky Mountain Great Dane Rescue while practicing for
3 years in Colorado. He also enjoys working with rabbits, guinea pigs and
birds. In his free time he enjoys stand up paddling, hiking and playing
with Isabel, his Great Dane.
Dr. Ben Benander
Dr. Ben Benander recently moved to Maui from Nevada with his wife, Carey- also a veterinarian- and his 2 year old son, six month old daughter, and 3 year old golden retriever, Cooper. Originally from California, Dr. Benander knew as early as high school that he wanted to be a veterinarian, and obtained his DVM from Cornell University in upstate New York. Among many strengths, Dr. Benander has extensive experience in emergency critical care. Central Maui Animal Clinic is thrilled to welcome him to the vet staff!
